You are here: How to plant and prune roses

Roses are an elegant, fragrant addition to the garden, and with a little care, will create a stunning Summer display.

There are several different types of roses - climbing, and patio climbing - for trellises and pergolas, hybrid teas and floribundas for borders, and miniature patio roses which can be grown in pots. Most roses thrive in a sunny location which will ensure lots of blooms, but there are a few shady loving varieties too!

Once you have decided what type of rose is best for your garden, and chosen from all the different colours and perfumes, they are simple to plant.

The best compost to use is J.A.Bower's compost 'Rose, Tree and Shrub', as it contains enough rose food for a year, and will give the rose the best start!
